March 13, 2018Feel right at home at Via Emilia 9, a hidden gem named after an ancient road found in the northern region of Italy. A recent renovation brings a new market and eat-in bar to this charming neighborhood eatery. Natural wood crates line the blackboard walls and are filled with imported Italian goods while a new open-kitchen allows guests a casual look at the making of each dish’s preparation.
The pasta-making station takes center stage. Watch Chef/Owner Chef Giancarlo “Wendy” Cacciatori and his wife Valentina meticulously hand roll tortellini right in front of your eyes. Legend tells us the shape of tortellini was inspired by Venus’ navel-- or perhaps it was just shaped by using one’s finger to keep the filling from falling out. Either way, Via Emilia 9’s tortellini are meticulously prepared and packed with flavor.
Each morsel is stuffed with a Prosciutto di Parma, parmesan cheese, mortadella, beef and pork. If pasta isn’t what you are craving, choose the not-so-traditional eggplant dish. Via Emilia’s eggplant offers a unique approach to a traditional eggplant parmigiano. The dish is served two ways, offering a rich contrast of hot and cold.
