DRB Redefining Downtown Miami
October 22, 2015Act like a tourist for a day and visit the new traveling Spanish market located at the entrance of Bayfront Park. Inspired by the historic Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid, La Feria del Mercado de San Miguel mimics an old European street fair to recreate the feel of the original 20th century location. This new pop-up concept features traditional cuisine sourced both locally and from Spain.
At first sight, La Feria’s 9,000 square feet indoor and outdoor structure may have the appearance of an amusement park. However, the modestly decorated space embraces the spirit of Spain and quickly transports visitors into another era. Red and yellow paper lanterns hang from the tent’s soaring ceiling while a massive bar takes center stage offering a complete selection of local and international libations. White hardwood tables and chairs provide patrons with ample seating options.
Leisurely stroll along the perimeter where thematic carts offer popular Spaniard fare from fresh seafood to sweet treats to savor onsite or at home. Among our favorite is the Cinco Jotas Cart where a friendly artisan slices the meat to order ($15) . Considered among the best in the world, the ham is sourced from the rare, acorn-fed Iberian pig.
Visit the ‘Carnes’ kiosk and indulge in incredible savory meats prepared in a massive Spanish oven known as a Josper. An assortment of locally sourced meats are cooked in the charcoal grill including picaña($14), savory sausages($10) and burgers($12). Each served with a small side.
Cocas, or Spanish pizzas, are roasted in an impressive brick oven with traditional offerings including vegetables with anchovy, onion, tomato and peppers.
Other Spanish classics available throughout the market include mixed charcuterie plates ($12) with local cured meats, artisanal Spanish cheese and locally baked bread. Colorful pickled items are marinated in oil and herbs and freshly made tortillas($6) and Paellas change daily.
Visitors can easily enjoy an afternoon or evening sampling all the edibles and are also encouraged to shop the market to take items home. The market is open to the public daily from 10AM until 10PM Sunday through Thursday and 12AM on Friday and Saturday with live Flamenco musical performances during the evening hours.
La Feria del Mercado de San Miguel is locate at 301 North Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132
