February 20, 2018Miami's most prestigious retail address just got a sweet new addition. Chef Soraya Kilgore just recently opened the doors to her very first business venture, MadLab Creamery.
"When I first thought about this opportunity to open my first business here in Design District, I couldn't really believe it," Kilgore says, "It is the most prestigious address in Miami for retail and that comes with some pressure."
Tucked in a corner of the Design District's Palm Court, MadLab Creamery is hard to miss with its two giant, sculptural ice cream cones and pink decor. The new soft serve shop opened just a couple weeks ago and has become popular among many locals. Its even gained the attention of some celebrity foodies like Instagram star @FoodGod (Jonathan Chaban).
Kilgore greets guests from behind the counter and explains the soft serve options including Ecuadorian chocolate, Matcha Green Tea (made with local favorite JoJo Tea) and French Vanilla. "There is something very nostalgic and comforting about soft serve."
Whether cone or cup is your choice you can top it with lychee, strawberries, edible glitter, hand spun cotton candy or one of over 20 other options. The finished product is a delicious Instagram-worthy work of art. "Nothing is better than seeing someone's face light up at first sign of ice cream."
Also available are Japanese cheesecake and hand-made chocolate bark. Both are made in house. Choose from a variety of chocolate bark made with Ecuadorian cacao nibs including those decorated with Frito Lay chips, figs, hazelnuts, Maldon salt and coconut to name a few.
Kilgore is planning an official grand opening event in the coming weeks.
The MadLab Creamery is located at 140 NE 39th Street, Miami; @madlabcreamery, madlabcreamery.com, open everyday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m
