Romance in Miami Restaurants
February 14, 2017Interview with Chef Nobu
September 28, 2017With seven acclaimed restaurants, a New York Times Bestseller and an Emmy Award-winning show, it’s hard to think of a culinary feat chef Guy Fieri hasn’t accomplished.
Lucky for us Miamians, this too-cool-for-school chef is returning to the Miami at the end of this month for the 16th-Annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF®), where he will once again host “Food Fight,” and on top of that, lead what’s sure to be a hilarious Culinary Aid Kitchen Demo – this time with Martha’s new BFF, Snoop Dogg. Recognized for his spikey, bleach-blond mane, if there’s one thing the host of “Guy’s Grocery Games” and “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-off” star is known for, it’s how he keeps us ooh-ing, ahh-ing and shocked with every challenge he tackles.
And before he makes his way back down to Miami, we caught up with Guy to find out about his guilty pleasures in the kitchen and see what’s in store for SOBEWFF 2017. Here’s what he had to say:
Q. What's that one kitchen tool you can't live without?
Pressure Cooker! I can’t say enough about this underutilized tool in the kitchen. I even dedicated a whole chapter to it in my recent cookbook, Guy Fieri Family Food. It’s efficient, economical and great for any busy family that wants to get a home-cooked meal on the table quickly.
Q. What's your favorite ingredient to cook with?
Garlic; it’s in almost every ethnicity of food and it’s one of my all-time favorites. It has the ability to completely transform even the most simple meal.
Q. You like to surprise fans by doing the unexpected, like making nachos in a garbage can. What's one food "stunt" you'd still like to do, but haven't?
To this point, I’ve done all the crazy stunts I want to do. We’ll see what the weekend brings, though.
Q. What food/drink is your guilty pleasure?
Fernet Branca… and that’s all I’m gonna say!
Q. You're coming to Miami once again for the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival. When you're here, what restaurant do you
have to go to and what do you order? The list is too long and the schedule is always packed. While there’s always a good half-dozen I want to visit, I never miss La Sandwicherie, where I order “The Frenchie."
Q. What can we expect from Guy at SOBEWFF this year? What can we expect from a Guy-and-Snoop-Dogg duo?
I can't say too much, but expect a surprise or two. I’ve cooked a lot with some crazy characters, and without question, the demo with D-O-Double-G will go down in history!?
