James Beard Award-winning Chef Michelle Bernstein along with her husband/partner David Martinez are re-opening the landmark restaurant in MiMo, Michy’s, as CENA by Michy within the next month.

Just short of its ten year anniversary, Michy’s closed in July 2014 to undergo a series of transformations in style, menu concept and spirit.

The word "cena" in Spanish means “the main meal of the day.” Chef Bernstein’s adventurous yet approachable cuisine features an array of good-for-the-soul favorites along with options inspired by her current culinary obsessions. The up and coming MiMo district needs a restaurant to call their own and CENA will definitely bring us that neighborhood vibe, while at the same time keeping the creativity, hospitality, warmth and charm that Chef Michy is known for.

CENA will maintain a communal dining spirit with a menu that offers a variety of small plates, labeled Bites and Starters. Separated into categories— Vegetable, Meaty, From the Sea and Pasta— these dishes work as shared appetizers or as the basis of a meal. Mix and match plates such as Roasted Sunchokes with smoked almonds, parmesan and jerez; Spinach and Feta Croquettes with Sicilian orange marmalade; Crunchy Porchetta with braised peaches; or Sweetbread Tacos and Fettuccine Carbonara with dash and furikake.

Vegetarians will be delighted to know that vegetables play a star role in Bernstein’s new menu. Spicing and techniques such as sous vide, braising and poaching create diverse flavors and textures that will please even the most dedicated meat lover.

If you're looking for heartier plates, dishes in development include an outstanding Burger made of brisket, short rib and prime aged ground beef; Steak Frites and Snapper Moqueca with chiles, peppers, shrimp and farofa.

Chef Bernstein’s dishes will be complimented by a European and Mediterranean-centric wine list. Martinez has overseen the list and shares with us that the wine they have chosen offers just the right amount of acidity that pair best with Chef Michelle’s food. CENA will also offer a full bar, featuring classic cocktails as well as a handful of signature selections.

Dinner will be served nightly beginning at 6PM. Stay tuned for the official opening date of CENA by Michy.
