The folks at New Belgium Brewing Company teamed up with Wynwood craft brewer Johnathan Wakefield for a two-part collaboration, Beers with Vrienden (friends in Flemish).

Known as the Florida beer scene’s “tropical fruit king,” Wakefield was a natural choice for the new collaboration which began in May at New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. Johnathan and New Belgium Brewer, Cody Reif, worked together to create a Grilled Pineapple Berliner Weiss featuring grilled pineapples and “a sweet-tart bite and crisp finish.”

The team celebrated the new release with a series of events at several local bars and restaurants including The Butcher Shop, Wynwood Tavern and Gramps. During their pub crawl kick-off event, New Belgium Brewing partnered with a local non profit organization, Rise Up Gallery, to guide guests through Wynwood’s art-filled streets. The collaboration continued at J Wakefield Brewing to create a second brew, sour mango Witte. Both collaborative brews will be available in Wynwood and the surrounding area as well as New Belgium's Liquid Center.
