June 22, 2015Digest Miami took the first Florida flight aboard The Flying Cucumber, a whimsical airship by Hendrick’s Gin. The 130-foot long air craft landed in South Florida’s Lantana Airport on Wednesday afternoon with flights taking place today (May 29th) and tomorrow for 100+ lucky passengers.
The massive structure is inspired by the gin’s most prominent note of flavor, Cucumber, adorned in a vintage motif with a giant illustrated eye. This fantasy-like theme is carried inside the domestic dirigible where our pilot Charlie awaited decked out in a gentleman’s vest and red-plaid trousers. An unusual ride to say the least, we were mystified by this steampunk ride in the sky. Charlie steered our helium inflated ship using two spindle wheels attached to either side of his seat while simultaneously pumping peddles.
We’ll admit we were a bit uncertain at first, but the Hendrick’s team soothed those jitters with a specialty inflight gin cocktail served in a flask along with a “regurgitation receptacle” for those unexpected and unfortunate events.
Brand Ambassador, Jim Ryan, tells us although Hendrick’s takes their gin process quite seriously, they have a much different approach to sharing the brand’s lifestyle. The Flying Cucumber is far from predictable.
