October 14, 2024Claws for Celebration: 5 Spots to Savor Stone Crab Season in Miami
October 17, 2024Miami’s vibrant food scene just got a new hotspot with the arrival of Sushi By Bou at Arlo Wynwood. Known for its intimate, high-energy omakase experiences, Sushi By Bou has opened its newest location within Higher Ground, the hotel’s third-floor cocktail lounge, blending Japanese culinary traditions with a ’90s hip-hop flair. With the grand opening on September 19, the speakeasy-style sushi bar offers a dynamic fusion of art, culture, and cuisine in the heart of Wynwood.
Sushi By Bou is part of NYC-based simplevenue, a hospitality group famous for turning underused spaces into micro-restaurant gems. This latest Miami location continues that trend, transforming 650 square feet of Higher Ground into a cozy, graffiti-splashed sushi haven. The space is decked out in dim lighting, luxurious velvet, and nods to the hip-hop greats like The Notorious B.I.G., adding a distinct edge to the traditional omakase dining experience.“We’re excited to bring Sushi By Bou to Arlo Wynwood’s Higher Ground,” said Erika London, co-founder of simplevenue. “The partnership creates a stylish and refreshing twist on the traditional sushi counter, with a vibe that matches Wynwood’s iconic mix of art and cuisine. After our success with locations across the country, we’re thrilled to offer Miami locals and visitors a new place to enjoy omakase in a unique, intimate setting.
Guests can choose between two omakase experiences: a 12-course journey for $65 or a 17-course experience for $125. Each menu features the freshest fish, sourced both locally and internationally, with creative Sushi By Bou touches that enhance the flavor of each bite. Expect delicacies like Botan Ebi (spotted prawn), O-Toro (fatty tuna), Unagi (barbecue eel), and the must-try Wagyuni (a surf and turf creation of wagyu beef and uni). For something a little extra, indulge in specialties like the Big Mac—a quadruple stack of toro, scallop, wagyu, and uni—or the flavorful Uni Shooter, which blends uni with sake, house ponzu, and chives.
Complementing the curated sushi menu is an elevated drinks list featuring handcrafted cocktails, imported sakes, and rare Japanese whiskeys. Highlights include the refreshing Shiso Southsider, made with Suntory Haku Vodka, shiso leaves, and lime juice, and the sophisticated Yuzu Honey Bee, which combines Maker’s Mark Bourbon, yuzu, honey syrup, and pink peppercorn. Diners can also savor Mochi Bliss Bites, a mochi-wrapped ice cream dessert that’s perfect for rounding off the meal.
Located at 2217 NW Miami Court, Sushi By Bou at Arlo Wynwood is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations via OpenTable are highly recommended, especially for the weekend crowd. Learn more here: sushibybou.com
