November 27, 2023Bartaco’s Coastal Oasis Opens in Coconut Grove
November 28, 2023In the heart of Miami's artistic Wynwood neighborhood, a hidden gem is about to enchant the culinary scene with the flavors of Morocco. On Wednesday, December 6, ZURI, a mesmerizing riad inspired by Morocco's hospitality, will open its doors to Miami's food aficionados. Founded by a group of visionary partners, including David Sarkissov, Joaquin Coll, Florian Mattone, and Kevin Coll, ZURI promises to be a haven for those seeking an authentic taste of Mediterranean-Moroccan fusion cuisine.
The name "ZURI," signifying beauty, radiance, and strength, encapsulates the essence of this culinary venture. For David Sarkissov, one of the partners, the inspiration behind ZURI harks back to his family's gatherings at a Moroccan restaurant during his childhood. It was a unique feeling of belonging that he wishes to share with the Miami community. "I am very excited to bring a new home-away-from-home to the Miami community and create memories they'll remember forever. We are honored to introduce authentic Moroccan hospitality to Wynwood," says Sarkissov.
At the heart of ZURI's gastronomic journey is the menu crafted by Executive Chef Marlon Rambaron, whose expertise in Mediterranean cuisine is complemented by Moroccan Chef Keltoum Aitkadi, boasting over 40 years of experience in authentic Moroccan cuisine. Together, they curate a menu that celebrates vibrant spices, aromatic herbs, and a rich tapestry of cultural influences.
Guests at ZURI can savor signature dishes like Moroccan eggplant salad (Zaalouk), Chicken & Preserved Lemons Tagine, Lamb & Prunes Tagine, Grilled Branzino with Red Chermoula, Mackerel Escabeche with Spicy Tomato, Chicken and Almond Pastilla, and more. And no Moroccan feast is complete without delectable desserts like Stuffed Dates, Chebakia, Plum Cake, and Tart Tatin.
The dining experience at ZURI extends beyond the plate, with an authentic Moroccan tea program and an array of must-try cocktails. The Pink Oasis pays homage to traditional Moroccan Atay, featuring vodka, pomegranate, mint, and foam, while the Kahua Martina presents a Moroccan twist on the classic Espresso Martini with vodka, espresso, honey, almond, argan, and saline.
ZURI's ambiance is as captivating as its cuisine, with a 150-seat venue spanning over 3,300 square feet of indoor and covered outdoor seating. The restaurant's design draws inspiration from North African, Mediterranean, and Arabic styles, featuring reclaimed woods, handmade linens, artisan zellige tile, and tadelakt finishes. Illuminating light filters through stained glass and mashrabiya windows, casting a warm glow over custom organic fabric seating adorned with plush Moroccan-style cushions and pillows.
Venturing onto the outdoor terrace feels like stepping into a garden oasis, complete with bamboo paneling, abstract wall shelving, ceiling fans, lush vegetation, and soft rustling paper lanterns. The heart of the restaurant boasts a cozy seated bar made of marble flute imported from Morocco. For those seeking a more intimate experience, ZURI offers a semi-private, 20-seat dining room with views of the open kitchen and outdoor seating.
ZURI invites diners to embark on a culinary journey from Wednesday through Sunday, with dinner service from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the bar extends its hours until 2 a.m. for those looking to savor the night. Located at 73 NW 26th St, Miami, FL, ZURI is poised to become a must-visit destination for anyone seeking the allure of Morocco's flavors and warm hospitality.
