Raise the Roof: 10 Hottest Rooftop Bars in Miami
January 30, 2017By the Numbers: Miami’s Top 10 Pool Parties
February 2, 2017Miami’s food and drink scene is always bursting with new options. Here are 10 of our favorite recent and upcoming restaurant openings in Miami, a few of which we can get excited about very soon:
BRAVA by Brad Kilgore
Adrienne Arsht Center, 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132
Here in Miami, we love Brad Kilgore. So when we heard he was helming a new restaurant in the Adrienne Arsht Center, we couldn’t wait to see what it was all about. BRAVA by Brad Kilgore serves European-style a-la-carte fare like Whipped Clam Chowder with black truffle butter, potato puree, Floridian clams and celery root, or Gently Cooked Alaskan Halibut with spinach nage, golden potato, zucchini, pistachio relish and lemon verbena. Seatings for theater-goers are available before all evening and matinee performances, and seatings for the public start nightly at 8:15 p.m.
Bitter Truth
3252 N.E. 1st Avenue #124, Miami, FL 33137
Now in Midtown, Bitter Truth is a new bar that fuses handcrafted cocktails with old school hip- hop and live local musicians. Brought together by award-winning bartenders Bryan Canales, Teddy Collins, Sarah Porter and Ryan Alfrey, Bitter Truth has an extensive craft cocktail menu with drinks like the Jack Of All Trades, a mix of Gentleman Jack, Jack fire, Jack honey/salted, cardamom shrub and fresh-pressed Granny Smith apple juice. Paired with the drinks, there are also light bites for bar-goers to nibble on: like made-from-scratch biscuits with pulled beef and bacon maple jam, honey glazed chicken, or red-velvet waffle lollipops.
Café Roval
5808 NE 4th Court, Miami, FL 33137
Most of us know Mark Soyka from his namesake restaurant, Soyka, and for good reason — it’s delicious. But now, the leading restaurateur has introduced a new, charming Morningside spot into the mix: Café Roval. Occupying a quaint coral house with a two-level patio and lush, enchanting gardens, Café Roval has an intimate ambiance that’s as relaxed as it is elegant. Complementing its beautiful tall cathedral ceilings, elegant chandeliers, vintage posters and jazz music is a farm-to-table menu like only Chef Nuno could create. Try the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with toast, quail yolk and ponzu dressing, or for a decidedly fancy evening, opt for the Caviar Service of Kaluga and Hackleback with blini, crème fraiche, eggs, chives, red onion, and capers. Pair the Grass-Fed Filet Mignon Skewers with a nice glass of wine, and you’re sure to have a delicious night in Morningside like you’ve never had before.
Commonwealth Miami
1216 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Debuting just this past October, Commonwealth is Miami Beach’s new “modern” speakeasy. Led by Executive Chef Daniel Roy, this new hotspot is part restaurant, part bar, part awesome new hangout. It has a menu of contemporary American fare like Sweet Potato Fries with bourbon marshmallow sauce, Street Corn with spicy mayo and cotija, Angus skirt steak with yucca fries, and chicken, beef and pork tacos. The speakeasy also has more than 120 whiskeys, scotches and bourbons behind the bar, as well as 50 different bottled beers and beers on tap, making it perfect for dinner, drinks or both.
OLLA Miami
1233 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139
OLLA is that one restaurant fans of Mexican cuisine in Miami have been waiting for. And when you consider the men behind it — entrepreneur Aaron McKown and Scott Linquist, COYO Taco chef/owner and Miami’s go-to Mexican guru — it’s easy to understand its magic before you even walk through the door. Linquist fuses his deep knowledge of Mexican cuisine with authentic (and sometimes rare) ingredients, always bringing out the best Mexican flavors in every dish he creates. Of course, something that amazing takes a lot of talent to actually make it happen. Read the full story here >>> FIRST LOOK: OLLA Miami
Bird & Bone
The Confidante Hotel, 4041 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33140
Already open for previews, but officially debuting in February 2017, The Confidante’s newest restaurant, Bird & Bone, showcases Chef Richard Hales’ contemporary take on southern American cuisine — a distinct change from his two Midtown restaurants, Sakaya Kitchen and Blackbrick Chinese. The new American-inspired menu has daily specials like the “Bone of the Day” and “Bird of the Day,” along with mouthwatering options like Slow Roasted Lamb Ribs with white BBQ sauce and charred cauliflower, and “Mason Jar Snacks” like deviled ham, smoked potato and egg salad. For dessert, watch out for southern classics like Bourbon Cake with cinnamon whipped cream and candied pecans by Hales’ wife, Jenny Hales. Go for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, and on Sundays, for brunch. Lunch is only served poolside.
DIRT Aventura/Brickell
Aventura Mall, 19501 Biscayne Boulevard, Aventura, FL 33180
Chef Nicole Votano took Miami by storm when she first opened her clean-eating, fast-casual spot, DIRT. And now, she’s taking the DIRT craze even further, opening a pop-up of the restaurant at Aventura Mall this December, and in early 2017, another permanent location in Brickell. Focusing on meals that are easy to eat on-the-go, the Aventura outpost of DIRT will feature a “Dirt lite” menu with Nicole’s signature bowls, salads and paninis, as well as some new options. If you’re shopping in a hurry, grab a fig-and-oat granola bar or matcha green tea pistachio balls, or for something a little heartier, try the Herb de Provence turkey melt with black pepper goat cheese, honeyed Florida citrus relish and upland cress on multigrain toast. Staying true to its original digs, DIRT will also sell chilled and hot JoJo teas, smoothies, house-made sodas, and a range of its staple vegan, gluten-free and Paleo options.
Artisan Beach House
The Ritz-Carlton, Bal Harbour, 10295 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour, FL 33154
Soon to be sitting in the Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, this new spot will offer rustic, soul foods with a global twist. Helmed by an unstoppable duo — Hell’s Kitchen veteran, Paula DaSilva, and nightlife mogul, Seth Greenberg — Artisan Beach House will be a testament to DaSilva’s favorite foods, serving up plates like poutine, beef stroganoff and New England clam chowder, just like DaSilva grew up eating over the summer.
Mignonette North Miami
13951 Biscayne Boulevard, North Miami Beach, FL 33181
When Danny Serfer first opened Mignonette in Edgewater in 2014, oyster lovers rejoiced. And now, the brains behind Mignonette and everyone’s favorite Biscayne Boulevard diner, Blue Collar, is opening a second location that fuses the best of both of his restaurants. Soon occupying the former Gourmet Diner space, the second location of Mignonette will have a dozen oyster varieties, simply pan-roasted fish, meat dishes, and like Blue Collar, a long vegetable menu with different preparations than those at Blue Collar itself. For a sweet ending, choose from display cases of old-school cakes and pies — they’re the cherry on top of what we know will be a delicious meal.
Pubbelly Sushi at Brickell City Centre
701 South Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33131
The Pubbelly Boys first opened Pubbelly Sushi in 2013 in Sunset Harbour, and thanks to its unwavering popularity, they’re now opening a second location in Brickell City Centre. Helmed by unstoppable trio Jose Mendin, Sergio Navarro, and Andreas Schreiner, this gastropub-meets-sushi house serves up a varied menu of raw fish and cooked seafood. Order Chicken Yakitori or Steak Anticuchos from the robata grill menu, Bigeye Tuna or Yukke Wagyu Tartare sushi, or for a Pubbelly staple, Porkbelly and Clam Rolls or Soft Shell Crab BLTs.
